Allergy/Anaphylaxis Friendly School

Yarralumla Primary School is an Anaphylaxis Friendly School. This is to provide protection for children who have severe allergic reactions to nuts and nut products. Our canteen menu will be nut and fish free and parents are asked to provide nut free food for their child's morning tea and lunch. For more information see the ACT Department of Education First Aid Policy at http://www.det.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/18332/firstaid.pdf

Annual Operating Plan

Yarralumla Primary has three priorities identified in its Annual Operating Plan. These are to continuously improve all students' literacy and numeracy levels; to build strong community partnerships and connections; and to achieve the National Quality Standard for accreditation of early childhood learning in our preschool and Montessori units. These priorities are subdivided into a number of goals, the progress of which is reported against at each Board meeting.

Appointments

Communication between school and home is highly valued by the Principal and all staff at the school. Parents are asked to make an appointment through the School's Secretary for any discussion with the Principal, Deputy Principal, Counsellor or teachers. An appointment will be arranged at the earliest possible time and attention will be given immediately to urgent issues.

Assemblies

Whole school assemblies are held every second Friday in the school hall commencing at 2:15pm. Each class presents one assembly per term. These assemblies are presented in both English and Italian and feature singing, drama, reports from students, displays of work, awards and general announcements. Whole school gatherings create a cohesive school community and maintain a heightened school spirit. Parents and Grandparents are always welcome to attend.

Awards

Student merit awards are presented at each whole school assembly. The Principal also awards certificates to two students and a teacher and/or parent and community member for their contribution to the learning and community spirit of the school.
