Enrolling/Transferring - ACT Public Schools
Parents/carers are welcome to enrol/transfer their son or daughter at any time during the school year using an online application form. Full details are available from the Education website.
When can I enrol my child(ren)?
Yarralumla Primary School accepts enrolments throughout the school year. Enrolments are accepted from out of the Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) based on school based criteria and personal circumstances.
For more information on the criteria for enrolment, please go to the school's Enrolment Management Plan.
Yarralumla Primary's Priority Enrolment Area.
Yarralumla Primary's PEA is the suburb of Yarralumla and parts of the western half of the suburb of Deakin - west of the boundary line that runs down Adelaide Avenue, along Hopetoun Circuit, Macgregor Street, Stradbroke Street, Stonehaven Crescent and Strickland Crescent.
For more detail, go to the following website and click on the option of ACT School Public Zones and then Primary Schools 2014 at the bottom of the map:
Enrolment in an any ACT public school can only be done by completing a generic online enrolment form used by all schools (paper application forms submitted at a school site are no longer accepted).
Please go to the Education and Training Directorate's 'Enrolling in an ACT school' webpage. The Directorate will send a receipt email upon receipt of your child's enrolment form. This is then forwarded to the school. The school will make contact with you after receiving this form and confirm placement by mid-June this year.
As of 1 May 2014, this form is the same for all children (ages 3 to 18) when enrolling in any ACT government school and will enable families to provide reasons why they choose a school out of their local area. Parents who choose Yarralumla Primary for its bilingual or Montessori programs are urged to complete this box.
Initial enrolment applications close on 30 May. Offers are made to families on 16 June.
Ongoing applications will continue to be received throughout the year after this date with second round offers made in August.
How do I know which grade to enrol my child(ren) in?
This decision will be made in consultation with the Principal or Deputy Principal. Whilst a child is eligible to enrol in Kindergarten if he/she has turned 5 years of age by 30 April, our school highly recommends that a child does not commence kindergarten until they have turned 5 in their pre-school year. Primary schooling in Canberra comprises seven years - Kindergarten through to Year 6. Your child(ren)'s placement will depend on her/his learning needs and the number of formal years of schooling already completed. We are happy to discuss this with you.
What should I do if I am interested in enrolling my child(ren) at Yarralumla Primary School?
Contact the school by phone, fax or e-mail. You will be asked to provide some details about your child(ren) such as date of birth, current school and year level, address, contact numbers and so on.
- An appointment time will be scheduled with either the principal or the deputy so that you may visit the school with your child(ren) to discuss placement, curriculum, have your questions answered, and to have a tour of the school.
- If you are enrolling you will need to provide:
- proof of date of birth (birth certificate or passport)
- record of immunisation
- proof of residential address (utility bill or a copy of your lease)
