Science

The transdisciplinary themes provide the framework for a highly defined, focused, in-depth programme of inquiry and as science is relevant to all the transdisciplinary themes, all planned science learning at Yarralumla Primary School takes places within this framework. Teachers incorporate the knowledge, understanding and skills that they are expected to teach and students are expected to learn, from The Australian Science Curriculum into our programs of inquiry. The Science Curriculum and three inter-related strands: Science Understanding, Science as Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills provide the understanding knowledge and skills through which students can develop a scientific view of the world.

Students are challenged to explore science, its concepts, nature and uses through clearly described inquiry processes. The Science Understanding strand comprises four sub strands: Biological sciences, Chemical sciences, Earth and space sciences and Physical sciences which are the basis for inquiry units of work for at least two terms per school year.
