Readers and Reading Help
The school has readers in English and Italian that children can take home to assist in their learning and literacy. The books range in levels from 1-30, Level 1 being the easiest. Readers can be changed each day so students are encouraged to return them regularly. Kindergarten children are assigned readers in Term 2 and given a plastic folder and a sheet or booklet to record reading progress. Teachers welcome help in the classroom from parents/carers able to listen to children read.
Reporting to Parents
Yarralumla Primary School believes that communicating student achievement in the most effective way possible is essential. Our aim is to develop a partnership between teachers, parents and students to ensure reporting is timely, accessible and informative. Students need feedback and opportunities to reflect on their learning so that further learning can occur. Parents need thorough information about students and need to be involved in the reporting process through a variety of communication methods. Term Overviews are distributed at the beginning of each term and provide an outline of the curriculum program and special events.
- Term 1
A Parent Information Sheet is distributed in week 2 and gives parents the opportunity to provide teachers with useful information about students. An Information Evening is held in Weeks 3 or 4 and provides parents with information on curriculum, class organisation, homework and behaviour expectations. Term Overviews are also distributed at this time. In Week 8, a mid-semester check list on your child's progress in literacy, maths and other curriculum areas is sent home with an option for an interview. - Term 2
Term Overviews are distributed in Week 2. Mid Year Reporting - a written report go home at the end of term 2. Interviews are then held if requested by the parent or teacher. - Term 3
Term Overviews are distributed in Week 2. Parents/carers visit the student in class and are taken on a 'learning journey' by the student. Portfolio sharing is included. - Term 4
Term Overviews are distributed in Week 2. End of Year Written Reports plus portfolios are distributed in Week 9.
